![]() The content menus are a straightforward affair with various categories listed top to bottom on the left side. But neither does the Roku 3 so bear that in mind. It does NOT work in apps such as YouTube or Watch ESPN. ![]() It will even find apps so can be very useful. It directs you to things offered by Amazon. ![]() This works very accurately but really on in a general sense. Yes, you can inadvertently press the wrong buttons but overall I like it. And to be honest, I like it that way.Ī superbly clean, literate, functional interface that is nearly impossible to bollocks up whilst searching for content or manipulating the play or pause functions. No dual function buttons like old Sony telly remotes(ugh), and no hot keys for direct access to services such as Netflix or Hulu+. The top row is, left to right Back-Home-Menu and the bottom row is Rewind-Play/Pause-Fast Forward. Below the circular buttons are six function buttons arranged in two rows of three. ![]() Push it at any time to search for content but there is a proviso to it I will address later. Above that is a round button about a quarter inch in diameter with a microphone symbol on it. These two buttons will do 95% of what you need to watch video on your telly. It has a large circular ring on the front with a dished circular button inside that. A slim devise about five inches long, inch and a quarter wide, an about a half inch thick. The first thing I noticed, and really liked about the Fire was the remote. A new hard drive fixed it but I am way past gaming devises. In fairness this is a child's gaming devise and at that it works well. It had much more capability than the BluRay but I quickly tired of the Sony interface and constant nag screens for everything under the sun. The hard drive failed in a year or so and the apps were very clunky at times. Only my youngest really gamed with it and still does on odd occasions but mostly it is a very expensive streaming box. I bought it because I thought my girls may like the games you could dance along to and there were games available similar to their old PS1 favourites. It was okay and allowed Netflix streaming and a few others but was woefully clunky in both speed and ease of use. When we first made the move we used a web capable BluRay player. In reality we were watching five to ten channels. And I don't miss that $85 a month payment to Dish one bit. I have been a cable cutter for over four years. Since we now can choose which channels to be displayed in the home page as your favorites.RJ, thanks for the heads up about the Roku screen mirroring. This does not happen to me with the old Windows desktop app which video is constantly at HD quality.ģ) Customized channels. The video quality seems to be changing all the time, from bad to worse and from worse to bad. (it's about medium quality and it never reaches to HD quality). The video quality is bad! When the video first loaded up, it looks crystal clear and then it jumps to very blurry and then steadily goes to a quality that's watchable. I have noticed that the new app have a 1 min delay than that of the windows desktop app especially that Live TV already have a minute or two delay now the new app is adding more delays. Not to mention the new navigation and guide.īut I also find some issues right off the bat that's very annoying to me. Also it seems to have improved a lot to work with Windows platforms. Like you can now choose which channels or shows are your favorites they will be displayed at the home screen and continue watching the shows you have been watching previously. I am amazed by the new UI and features that the new version provides. I am really excited about the new Windows 10 app and immediately downloaded it as Windows is my main platform of watching Sling TV. ![]()
